Revamped the in-app advertising experience in Optimity app—boosted ad revenue by 15% while preserving user satisfaction.
The Challenge: Unlimited, poorly branded ads frustrated users and led to negative feedback. Boring stock-photo tiles failed to capture interest or drive clicks. (Low Engagement) Goal: Enhance the app’s advertising strategy by introducing a new ad section Improve the visual of ad tiles Change ad behaviours
Design Approach & Solution Highlights
Approach & Key Decisions: Limited ad views and boosted gem rewards to make each view feel valuable. Introduced a new “Take a Mental Break” (AdJoe) section at the top of “Other Ways to Earn” for maximum visibility. Replaced random stock photos with vibrant, on-brand illustrations that align with the AdJoe banner. Added a daily counter (e.g., “3/8 ads watched”) and countdown timer instead of disappearing tiles, so users always know their standing. Solution Highlights: “Take a Mental Break” Section: A gamified ad area where users earn gems by playing short games. Enhanced Ad Tiles: Consistent illustration style, clear calls to action, and on-theme color palette. Daily Ad Counter & Timer: Transparent limits (8 ads/day), progress display, and re-activation timer to manage expectations. Opt-In Rewards Flow: Users choose when to watch ads for increased gems—boosting control and engagement.
