An immersive, milestone‑based walking challenge in Optimity app that turns every step into an adventure—vibrant UI and social rewards significantly boosted engagement.
The Challenge: Users couldn’t see milestone details or visual cues, leading to confusion. (Unclear Progress) Static, gray UIs failed to motivate or celebrate user achievements. Pre-enrollment and completion screens lacked context and excitement. Goal: Drive sustained physical activity by creating an immersive, motivating, and easy-to-understand challenge flow.
Design Approach & Solution Highlights
Approach & Key Decisions: Introduced “Around the World” maps—each milestone represents a new locale with fun facts and images. Red Banner for pre-enrollment (“Get ready!”) to attract attention. Blue Banner for active challenges (“You’re on your way!”) to convey calm progress. Enhanced the progress bar to show 5–6 discrete milestones with a next-bonus callout. Added detailed descriptions on challenge pages and celebratory illustrations at completion. Solution Highlights: Informative Pop-Ups: After each milestone, users see a pop-up with facts & visuals about their “visited” destination. Vibrant UI Revamp: Switched from gray to branded blue/red banners, left-aligned text, and colored progress backgrounds. Persistent Milestone Bar: Reused daily activity progress components to display challenge milestones and next rewards. Completion Celebration: A dedicated end-flow screen with colorful illustrations and congratulatory copy.
Impact & Key Learnings
